Overview

Overview

Switchgear is where a network becomes controllable. A ring main unit lets you feed a substation from two directions and isolate a fault without taking the whole ring down, and a feeder pillar splits an incoming supply into protected outgoing ways. Get either wrong and you have built a network you cannot maintain safely.

We supply ring main units and feeder pillar units, and our feeder pillars are built on solid copper busbar rather than aluminium. That is a genuine cost difference and we mention it because buyers who have been caught out by aluminium busbar ask about it first.

We install and commission this equipment ourselves. We have completed ring main unit supply and installation as a single scope, including transformer and RMU together, terminating, testing and signing off on site with the client present. For most clients that is simpler and safer than splitting supply and installation between two contracts.

What we supply

Supplied on its own or installed and commissioned as part of a substation scope.

Ring main units

Compact, sealed medium voltage switchgear for 11 kV distribution, arranged as a ring or tee to feed a substation from more than one direction. Load break switching means a section can be isolated without dropping the whole ring, and the sealed construction keeps dust, damp and insects out, which is exactly what fails open air switchgear in this climate. We supply units, install them, terminate the cables, test and hand over. Typical features include ring or tee configuration, load break switching, integral earthing and cable termination provision. Exact configuration, current rating and protection arrangement are confirmed per unit against the manufacturer datasheet.

LT FEEDER PILLAR / FUSE DISTRIBUTION PANEL

Our Low-Tension (LT) Feeder Pillar / Fuse Distribution Panel is designed for safe, reliable and efficient distribution of low-voltage electrical power.

Suitable for 400/415V applications and commonly used for transformer installations, substations, industrial facilities, commercial buildings and distribution networks.

Key Features:

100% Copper Busbar System

Reliable power distribution and circuit protection

Suitable for transformer secondary distribution

Heavy-duty construction for long-lasting performance

Designed for professional industrial and utility applications

Feeder pillar units

This is medium-voltage electrical switchgear equipment, mainly used for 11kV/33kV power distribution, protection, and control.

These are commonly installed in substations, transformer installations, factories, industrial facilities, and power distribution networks.

Automatic Circuit Recloser

An Auto Recloser (Automatic Circuit Recloser) is a medium-voltage protection device used on power distribution lines, typically 11kV or 33kV, to automatically disconnect and reconnect electricity when a fault occurs.

When there is a temporary fault—such as lightning, a tree branch touching the line, or a short circuit—the recloser trips OFF, waits briefly, and then automatically switches ON again. If the fault has cleared, power continues normally. If the fault remains, it trips again and eventually locks out for safety.

Auto reclosers are commonly used on overhead distribution lines, substations, transformer installations, and industrial power networks.

Applications

Where it is used

Distribution substations

Ring main units feeding a distribution transformer as part of an 11 kV ring, so a fault on one section does not black out the rest.

Industrial plant intake

Switching and protecting the incoming supply to a factory or processing plant, and splitting it to plant distribution boards.

Commercial and estate networks

Feeder pillars distributing low voltage supply across an estate, a market or a mixed use development.

Current rating, breaking capacity, number of ways and protection arrangement are confirmed per unit against the manufacturer datasheet at the point of quotation. We do not publish these figures generically because switchgear is specified to a network, not bought off a shelf.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Yes. We have completed RMU installations including cable termination, testing and handover, and we sign off on site with the client present. It is one of the reasons clients use us instead of a pure trading company.
Copper. We build on 100% copper busbar. If you have been quoted a cheaper pillar elsewhere, busbar material is usually the difference and it is worth asking the question.
That depends on how your network is fed and how many ways you need. Send us the single line diagram or describe the arrangement and we will tell you what fits, before you commit budget.
Yes, and most clients order both together. A transformer and RMU as one scope is simpler to install and simpler to commission.
It depends on configuration. Stock units move in days, configured units are indent orders and we will give you a real date rather than an optimistic one.
